Skip to content RV travel tips for Texas
Before you book
- Call ahead. Parks often hold their best sites for phone reservations.
- Tell the office your rig's length and slide-outs. Site sizes vary a lot.
- Check which power you need, 30 amp or 50 amp, before you book.
- Weekends and holidays fill first. Midweek stays are easier to book.
- Ask if a site is pull-through so you can skip backing in.
- Ask about late arrival. Many offices close before dark.
On the road
- Top off fuel when you can. Some stretches of West Texas have long gaps between stations.
- Plan to be parked by mid-afternoon. Late arrivals are hard on a tired driver.
- Check tire pressure before you leave. Texas heat is hard on RV tires.
- A short break every two hours or so keeps the driver fresh.
- Strong crosswinds are common on Texas highways. Slow down if your rig starts to sway.
- Save the park's phone number before you lose cell signal.
